Russ Larkin & Associates was first registered as a firm of Consulting Engineers and Ship Surveyors in January 1990, when Russ returned permanently to Australia after having spent thirty years in the Far East and south East Asia as a Consulting Marine Engineer, Ship Surveyor and Ship's Superintendent. Russ was, at this time, appointed as Non-Exclusive Surveyor to the American Bureau of Shipping, an appointment he had held in Brunei Darussalam, Sabah and Sarawak for fifteen years.
The original Sole Proprietorship was changed to a Partnership in 1994 when Steve Larkin joined the company as a Marine Engineer Surveyor.
In July 1999, Russ Larkin & Associates changed status from a Partnership to a registered company, now known as Russ Larkin & Associates Pty Ltd.
The firm has carried out ship surveys for major Australian and International Insurance Companies and P & I Clubs. Hull and machinery and various items of equipment have been valued for various finance organisations such as AGC, ANZ Banking Corporation, Bank SA, Commonwealth Bank Business Finance, Esanda Finance, Westpac Business
Finance and other institutions.
In March 1996, Russ Larkin and the Partnership were both accredited by Maritime Safety Queensland as Marine Surveyors, to carry out Hull and Superstructure, Machinery, Electrical,
Loadline, MARPOL and Safety Equipment surveys on Queensland State Registered vessels constructed of timber, aluminium, steel, FRP, and ferro cement.
Steve Larkin was accredited by Maritime Safety Queensland to carry out the above surveys in October 1999, with the addition of practical stability testing.
The Company now undertakes over 550 marine and industrial surveys and inspections annually.
